Late intro

Post by PhoenixRose on Wed Jul 11, 2012 6:05 pm

Hi, I've been here for about a week now so I thought I'd better introduce myself and my flock.

I'm Wendy, 46, married with 4 children. I home educate my youngest, my only boy, who has Aspergers syndrome. I have many animals, 3 chickens, 2 guinea pigs, 2 tortoises, a bearded dragon, the most wonderful tolerant Bichon cross dog and last but not least my flock, African grey called Toby, a hahns macaw called Max, a pearly conure called Merlin and our most recent addition (2 days ago) a budgie called Echo.

I've already learned a lot since being here and can't wait to learn more.

I have indeed got pictures.

Poor naked Toby who we suspect is female.

Merlin, also thought to be female.

My bearded dragon Cosmo

My male tortoise, Herbie.

Cameo, baby tortoise

My chickens, Bracken, Fern and Willow in that order from left to right.

Teddy, the best dog in the world, with Merlin and the squeak.

The guinea pigs Bubble and squeak

And Echo the new budgie. Still need to get some decent photos of him.

I haven't got pictures of Max on my photo bucket as he tends to attack the camera and make it hard to get any good pictures at all. I'll try and get some of him to post.

Thank you. I recently nearly lost my chickens to a fox. Fern was attacked and had serious injuries we paid £150 to have her stitched up and another £400 to build a chicken run to keep them safe. They camped out in my consevatory for 2 weeks while we built the run to protect them from the fox.

You can't see the full extent of her injuries in these pictures. She had damage to her wing and had 28 stitches all together.

This is their run and house

Poor Fern Sad

That is a very nice hut & run for the hens.

Ours had something similar but also were able to free range, preferably when the dogs were outside, but it didn't stop Mr Fox taking some of them, or leaving them severely injured and hubby had to dispatch them.
