Hello to Everyone - I'm new here!
Hi to everyone
About 18 months ago we inherited a yellow headed amazon green parrot and an umbrella cockatoo from the previous owner of our property. We live in rural Caithness and as the birds live in an outside aviary, their owner was reluctant to uproot them - she was moving to Bristol and they really wouldn't be suited to city life! We're getting on really well with them. Snowy the cockatoo can be handled quite well and is becoming very attached to us. However, King, the Amazon is really aggressive. We really like him - he's such a character, but we have been hoping that we might be able to at least get near him! He talks really well and has even been shouting for me and mimicking my voice; but wants to maul anyone within chewing distance! Both birds are about 23 yrs old now so are set in their ways. It would be nice to hear from any other Amazon green owners out there!
Thanks for reading! - Catherine

Hi Catherine and welcome
Good for you taking on those two.
Amazons can be a handful, although not all of them. But my Blue Front Amazon who is about 31yrs old now hates everyone including hubby, but loves me. So we have to work around it when he's out.
I am sure other members will be n here in due course and giving some advice that may help. But you may have to accept him as he is! I guess having new mummy could have upset him, so it can take time for him to get used to you.
Good luck!!!

Hi Catherine and welcome. Wow, two beautiful birdies you have there and you are doing so well with them. Bet it's changed your life completely adding those two magical creatures to the family. I was given an old African Grey years ago and it started a lifelong love of parrots.
I don't have an Amazon but think they're wonderful birds, and Umbrellas too are amazing. Neither are easy peasy birds to take on and you are doing well.
I'm sure the experts will be on soon to help you. Please come back and tell us how you're getting on.

Hi
I know these birds and the owner of your parrots
Mary is a very kind lady, do you still update her on how they are getting on?
From what i have been told they are very much stuck in their ways now
